Academic Visits

  • Prof. A Hussain, Dr J Farkas, numerous Stirling-based PhD students (E Cambria – now Associate Prof. at NTU (Singapore) and, with Prof Hussain, ranked one of world’s top two most productive researchers in the core SIPRA area of sentiment analysis, Mrs R Ali, Mr K Farooq, Mr T Mazzocco and Mr L Ali); and postdoctoral research fellows (Dr E Yang, Dr A Abel, Dr A Adeel) have regularly visited their SIPRA collaborators at Tsinghua, Beihang & Anhui Universities.
  • SIPRA collaborators from China have also regularly visited Stirling including:

  • Dr Jiasong MU from Tianjin Normal University visited Strathclyde from December 2016 to January 2018 to work with Professor Bob Stewart.
  • Dr Zhong ZHANG from TJNU visited Strathclyde on a Royal Society Scholarship. He was hosted by Professor Durrani.
  • Professor Tariq Durrani visited Tsinghua, Tianjin and TJNU in September 2017.
  • Professor Durrani and a delegation from Scotland visited Harbin to attend the NSFC/Newton Fund Researcher Links Workshop in July 2017.
  • Dr Chen Jin from Tianjin Normal University TJNU) visited Strathclyde from March 2016 to March 2017 to conduct research with Professor Durrani.
  • Professor Amir Hussain from the University of Stirling visited Beihang University, Anhui University, and the Chinese Academy in October 2013.
  • In October 2013, Professor Stephen Marshall and Dr Jinchang Ren from the University of Strathclyde visited Northwestern Polytechnical University to discuss joint papers and collaborate on a funding application under preparation.
  • Dr Meijun Sun and Dr Zheng Wang from Tianjin University visited the Centre for excellence in Signal and Image Processing at the University of Strathclyde during June and July 2013.
  • Dr Jinchang Ren, University of Strathclyde, visited Tianjin University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, and Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, to discuss collaborative research during July and August 2013.
  • Dr Aihua Zheng and Dr Dengdi Sun from Anhui University visited the University of Stirling during June-September 2013
  • Dr Erfu Yang, University of Stirling, visited Beihang University and Anhui University during June 2013, as part of a research visit to China.
  • Professor Bin Luo from Anhui University visited the University of Stirling in September 2012 and April 2013.
  • In April 2013, Professor Emanuele Trucco of the University of Dundee visited Sun Yat-Sen University and gave a Seminar on Medical Analysis at University of Dundee. He was welcomed by Dr Jian-Huang Lai, the Dean of the School of Information Science and Technology.
  • Professor Wang Jun, Dr Fei Gao, and Dr Wei Zhao from Beihang University visited the University of Stirling in April 2013.
  • Professor Tariq Durrani, University of Strathclyde, presented Keynote Talk at the 2012 International Forum on Electronic Engineering Education held at Beihang University in October 2012. Professor Amir Hussain, University of Stirling, also attended
  • In April 2012, Dr Jianguo Zhang from the Computer Vision and Image Processing Group (CVIP) at the University of Dundee visited the research group led by Dr Weishi Zheng at Sun Yat-Sen University. He gave a seminar on Bag of Words, Principles, Recent Advances, as well as Applications in Medical Image Processing’.
  • Professor Tariq Durrani, University of Strathclyde, visited the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in Chengdu in August 2011, as a guest of the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, where he delivered a number of keynote lectures on adaptive systems theory.
  • Professor Tariq Durrani along with Professor Gong KE, President of Tianjin University, organised a Workshop in Tianjin on 29-30 November 2010, to discuss the ‘Reform of Engineering Education in China’. The Workshop was attended by some 150 delegates including Presidents and Vice Presidents from some fifteen leading universities in China.
  • Professor Amir Hussain, University of Stirling, visited the Joint Research Laboratory in Cognitive Signal Image Processing in Beihang University, Beijing, China in December 2010, to discuss the submission of joint research grant applications.
  • In September 2011, the Vice President, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), Professor Xiaobo Yang, the Dean of the School of Electronic Engineering, Professor Yong Fan, and Jin Li, a member of the Research Group on Remote Sensing Image Processing and Application, School of Electronic of Engineering, visited the University of Strathclyde to meet Professor Tariq Durrani and Professor Walter Johnstone, Vice Dean International Communications, to discuss the current and future trends on system theories and the emerging directions of signal processing. Both sides expressed their desire to cooperate in the area of signal processing between the two universities.
  • Professor Wang Jun of Beihang University visited Stirling University during August and September 2010 to discuss collaborative opportunities and to conduct joint research in the area of real time signal processing.
